Chicago Illinois This 68-unit affordable housing project for veterans returning from wars in the Middle East provides a supportive environment for veterans to re-acclimate to civilian society. The four-story structure includes three levels of living in a courtyard arrangement, with parking, retail and veterans support services on the ground floor. The building’s interior courtyard, slightly raised from grade, is a lushly landscaped space with playground and fitness equipment for veterans and their young families. Cement board cladding on the building exterior makes reference to digital camouflage patterns of all branches of the armed services.
